As you know from this set of posts, Gordon Chappell loved to mix his love of narrow gauge trains with his historian's job with the National Park Service. One example I know about was a time when he volunteered to be sent to Sitka National Historic Site in Alaska. After doing whatever they needed with Russian History there; he went for a round trip on the White Pass and Yukon Route. This was years back when they still went all the way into Canada.
Then there was the time some sort of event/convention was taking place in Philadelphia. Of course he had to make a trip over to the East Broad Top. I am sure he is pleased with the new Foundation that is doing such good work there now.
Gordon wrote a book called Steam Over Scranton: the Locomotives of Steamtown. He was nice enough to autograph my copy: For Ted Miles whose interest extends from ship to trains, with warm regards. GC Sadly the book is poorly bound and is now out of print.
