This one should probably go on Scott's "Going Away" thread, Olaf -
But since even in his absence it's been growing a few posts daily, and it's now up to 91 as of this evening, whereas the "Camels" thread has been languishing at barely over half that number of posts – 47 as of 12/13 – and whereas there are several bovines pictured in this one by Ernie (and engine #493, the subject of many a heated discussion recently), even though it's been posted before I figured "it belongs"
:
The above also reminded me of another photo, posted previously on a obscure thread, of the same location about four months later taken by a photographer who, SFAIK, doesn't post regularly on the NGDF — the late Doris Osterwald's son Ray
:
. . . all of which has led to memories of yet another subject of late, the notorious green-jacketed and about-to-be-oleaginous #489
:
For further information concerning the above scandalous photo see the thread starting at [
ngdiscussion.net], and for some alternative views of the fill at "Lake Lobato" see the three photos at [
chasingtrains.smugmug.com]
et seq on John West's site.
