I drove all the way up there in 2008 with no problems, David -

See [ngdiscussion.net].  I was driving same Ford AWD Hybrid that had made it over Cinnamon Pass and Ophir Pass, as noted two posts earlier at [ngdiscussion.net], and which I am still driving today.

Also, please note the following quote from the first of the above-mentioned posts:

  "Technically 'The Palisades' refers to the almost vertical rock face ABOVE the roadbed of the DSP&P, so named long before even the wagon road over Alpine Pass was established . . . "
