I know you made a post after this one, but I thought this one is key. It is very well stated.

So, three points......

Is there an Employee TT or inventory that actually lists a turntable at Alpine Tunnel prior to the 1905 fire. At the moment there are three that do not, spanning 1886 to 1897, and a lone 1893 inventory that does. It could be interpreted that the latter is in error because it lists tables at both St. Elmo and Alpine Tunnel, which seems unlikely.

More data/references would be helpful. You have mentioned a couple in your posts that I have not seen before, such as the 1897 court case (I assume you’re quoting the transcript) specifically mentioning a turntable. Newspapers previously quoted only mention the turntable pit the man fell into. It is undisputed the pit was there, but was there a turntable installed in it.

Without putting words in your mouth, and based on the above, I think we agree on a plausible scenario. That is the St. Elmo table being moved to Alpine Tunnel in the late 1890s. Finding a direct reference to this move actually being accomplished would be definitive. Or....at least finding that elusive inventory/Employee Timetable pre-1905 where the St. Elmo table was gone and one added at Alpine Tunnel.
