Thanks. I'm not sure that it isn't more thorough than obsessive! The information is so disjointed, spread across sources and spartan that for me the best way to deal with it is to take in everything, internalize it and start putting it onto paper to cross-compare and organize. Very messy to start. I can't say I don't have preconceived thoughts--I'm a 21st century dweller attempting to put myself into the thinking of 19th century people. But I'm aware of the dangers so try to be open-minded.

I don't see getting into any archives before 2022 given the pandemic. It's not worth it to me. If I ever can, it'll easily take weeks of research--I'd also be digging out details on the GSL&P. So don't hold your breath on any revelations from me!

You're in Canada? I follow very little standard gauge and my favorite (of three lines) happens to be in BC: the Nakusp & Slocan/CP Kaslo division. I've been under its spell for decades and try to travel to the Slocan area every few years. It was one of standard gauge that challenged the Colorado narrow gauges on all levels of interest--and it had car float operations as a bonus! I had hoped to go up to the CP Historical Society meeting in three weeks in Nelson but that was cancelled. Hopefully in 2022.
