"Is all this Correct? If so, it would seem to narrow down the date that the turntable was placed, into the 1893/94 to 1897 period. "
Ralph, this is almost what I've been saying all along, for days now. It was touched on in the December thread, too.
I would amend your comment to say 1882 is slightly possible, 1890-93 is very likely, 1897 is somewhat possible. From the information I have I believe 1882 has no backing other than it was planned, 1890-93 is extremely likely given what was happening at the tunnel in 1890 and the DL&G inventory, 1897 it was already there. That's it. Until more data comes up nailing it down, that's it.
I highly recommend, if you are really interested in diving into this subject that you get Edward's, Chappel's (CRM #12), Klinger's, Helmer's, Speas', Ferrell's And Digerness' books. Get the 1916 ICC maps from CRM. Search through the online CO historic papers. Look at the UP and C&S annual and other reports available online for any hints. Look at the UP, DL&G and UPD&G inventories. Join the DSPP Historical Society and get the CD of back issues that includes Cliff Mestel's research. Get the NG&SL Gazette CD for the 1973 article on the tunnel and on the engine shed. Dig through the discussions on the various forums. That's the starting point. From there, plan long vacations to the archives and definitely walk the site itself.
