Interesting discussion.
In the dozen or so years I've been visiting the D&S, I have always referred to the spot where Jerry's pictures were taken (just below Rockwood) as "Elbert Creek", although "Elbert Creek Canyon" makes just as much sense. I also recall JBWX referring to it as "Leaky Pipe" and I do recall seeing the actual pipe.
When I first heard the term "Mini-High Line", I THOUGHT that was the location they were referring to, but one look at the D&S' own track guide told me the location of the actual "Mini-High Line" was south of Shalona Lake Crossing, not north. I believe it is the stretch that is open on the east side, with the tall power lines just below. The D&S Milepost Location lines up pretty well with that. Even if the brush was cut down, that location would not be photogenic from the valley below due to the high-tension wires and poles. It's been a couple of years since I've ridden, so I don't recall if it would make a decent drone shot. I suspect it might, but again, only if the weeds were whacked.
Edit: From the D&S Milepost Guide:
- MP 467.50: Mini-Highline
- MP 468.10 Shalona Crossing (C.R. 250)
- MP 468.65 Elbert Creek Bridge
