Thanks for filling in much of the information I was looking for, Earl. One of the features that sets the C&TS apart from other operating rail museums and tourist railroads is that it has two complete terminals, each with locomotive servicing/shop facilities. Does anyone know of any such operation in North America that has regularly dispatched (daily) trains from both terminals?
Remarkable in another way, is the capacity and capability of the D&S to schedule up to 4
steam-powered trains daily, which requires a robust roundhouse and operating work force, along with the steadfast commitment of its owner. General Palmer would be amazed to learn that portions of his under-capitalized narrow gauge system have survived. And he'd have trouble understanding why folks from all around the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, and elsewhere pay their own travel costs and registration fees to do some of the work that he had had to pay for out of company funds.
Let's hope that these and other historic preservation efforts, and especially those whose occupations depend on it to feed their families, can persevere through this pandemic.
