I was a member of the Narrow Gauge Railroad Association (NGRRA) and often worked as a car attendant during the years 1971-74. I don’t remember any problems at all. We acted similarly to the present day docents. We answered questions, pointed out various points of interest and were charged with carefully lowering and raising the steps on the converted boxcars. Our “uniforms” consisted of a dark gray jean jacket with the large oval NGRRA patch on the left breast and a striped engineer cap. As I recall, most of the car attendants were young— of college age for the most part. I remember it as a fun time. I made a lot of good friends. Those are my memories.
Sorry, can’t help you on your other questions. I remember all this Antonito work being done, but can’t tell you who did it or who was paying for it.
