340 was painted green for the Elks club special. Whether it was the club or the Montrose shop is anyone's guess. But fact of the matter is it was green, it also has a red cab roof. The roof remained red into her early years at knott's. I agree with Earl in that it looks badly faded, so it does not look like dark green.
As an aside 318s tender behind 340 has aluminum coal boards. I chipped through the paint layer when I worked at knotts and found aluminum under several layers of black.
The Rocky Club sometimes painted equipment themselves before an excursion. Such as RGS 20 with a green jacket, RGS 74 with a green jacket, and RGS business car B-20 with the incorrectly huge EDNA on the side. Leads me to think the Club was trying to represent some historical accuracy. Or they just could have been trying to make dull equipment look 1950s good. Let's agree that the 1950s "idea" of what 19th century railroad equipment looked like was gaudy.
Also the enginehouse siding looks like it's just corrugated sheet metal that has rusted, giving it a red look.
