There is a road (trail?) that comes off Apache Canon Rd. and heads east up the Los Pinos on the south side of the river. It is used to access some private land opposite MP 322. Interesting is that one of the cabins the road serves is owned by the Shawcroft clan. In the early-mid 1980's the road forded a small creek then continued to just east of where the RR crosses Long Creek - MP 321 where the road ended. From here it would be a 3/4 mile walk to Cascade Creek. My guess is this is how Ernie got the shot. Walking in from where Apache Canon Rd. is approximately opposite Cascade Creek would be a serious march. I drove Apache Canon a couple of times thinking it was a quicker way to get from Cumbres to Osier. It is not. There is one spot where you can see a far off speck of Cascade Creek through the trees. I bet it was a couple of miles to the north of the road.
