By the time Ernie hiked around to the east side of Windy Point and back down to a spot just west of the bridge over the old road, #483 had dropped the caboose and was backing around the east track of the wye. Meanwhile, #493 had pulled ahead on the siding and was positioning the cars where they would be tied down until the later eastbound freight came along

After turning on the wye and taking water, #483 crossed the bridge and headed back down the hill to Chama
