Hello again -
#498 and the train from Durango arrived in Chama late in the morning on July 18, and by 11:30 the crew had gone off the clock

A short while later #493, with #483 as the rear helper, departed with the very last 'Cumbres Turn' — a run to the top of the pass with a string of cars to be left there for a later eastbound freight to pick up and haul the rest of the way to Alamosa, followed by turning on the wye and returning separately to Chama. Here #493 approaches Jukes Tree #2 just east of the Rio Chama bridge as the train heads out of town

Here's #493 approaching – and passing – the small springtime pond known to fans and foamers as 'Lake Lobato'

. . . and passing the cabins of the long ago 'Lobo Lodge' at the crossing now known as Dalton
