Phil, there was more stock shipped over Marshall Pass than Cumbres. The D&RGW ran 4-engine stock trains as late as 1953 there. I once talked to a rancher in Gunnison and he said some of his guys rode in the caboose on these stock trains. D&RGW did not have special drover cabooses, just let the guys sit where they could. He told me he once rode in the cupola over Marshall Pass.
