I don't see why Robby is so upset about 491. Most of her Rio Grande uniqueness is still in place. And truthfully what makes her unique among the other k-37s is inside the firebox. She has two thermic syphons, no other k-37s has them. Guess what the syphons are still in place, they were not replaced. Other fine DRGW craftsmanship is still in place as well. Only a few rod brasses we're replaced, all her side rods are still Original or Rio Grande hell even her flues and tubes are still Rio Grande.
I don't post on RYPN but I wish someone would point out this info to him. Yes some stuff was replaced but she is still very much a preserved Rio Grande Locomotive. If this doesn't make him happy then nothing will.
People just can't seem to except the fact that operating historic equipment is just a different way of preservation and interpretation of history for the public and generations to come.
