As an example, WW&F No. 10 was originally 30" gauge as built by Vulcan, but was converted to 24" gauge at Edaville in the 1950s. The cylinders are still spaced for 30" gauge, but the 6" difference (3" on each side) is made up for by extra-long crank pins on the rear drivers.

Here is a photo of No. 10 sans boiler (borrowed from the WW&F Facebook page) that clearly shows the long crank pins.
