If you are into getting off the beaten path, there is the old Johnson Canyon Tunnel that was abandoned in 1960. Last time I was there you could just about drive up to the west portal on the old grade. We walked through the tunnel and also checked out the top side.
We took the Welch Road exit west of Williams to NF-6 and then headed east on NF-2524 which is the old grade. There is also a small crater to check out just west of NF-6 right before you get to 2524.
My favorite area to explore up there is south of Ash Fork on the long abandoned Santa Fe, Prescott and Phoenix alignment through Limestone Canyon. That is really off of the beaten path though.
