Amen, Mr. Allen! As one who has strongly supported the restoration of #483 for many years, I even more strongly supported the trade. Instead of the nothing for nothing we have now, #483 could have been running on the D&S instead of rusting resting in Chama, and someday we might have had a replica premium-fare San Juan Express running from Antonito to Chama and back every weekend.

Maybe five years from now, the swap will rise again from the swamp.
OTOH, if the D&S finds that a four-and-three mix works well enough, they'll have little incentive to trade a working engine for a big-bucks restoration just to improve the mix slightly to five-and-two.
