Same here in Australia, but called 'cattle grids', very common on outback main roads in my State, the larger cattle properties up north are open grazing land and cattle grids are in place where the road dissects a fence line and virtually every rail crossing in Australia (sorry, railroad crossing!) has these cattle grids on the track to stop wayward stock wandering onto the R.O.W.
