Like I said in my message, I think the guys in the shop are doing great things. But, recent history doesn't seem to fit very well with the more optimistic view you guys are espousing. I hope that three locomotives are running this year. Of course, three isn't really enough to run a full, reliable season.
If you could do one and a half to two full rebuilds *every* year and still keep the other locomotives in good shape, then things are much better. But, you still may not have the funding to keep up that pace over time, unless New Mexico actually sustains funding at an awesome rate over four to five years.
I remember listening last year (and the year before) at the predictions for great productivity from the RGRPC shop. When I dropped in to visit, the shop guys all complained that they spent so much time working on the next day's consists that they didn't have time to work on the rebuild.
Is that capacity somehow getting fixed -- in a way that's financially viable over a five to ten year period?

Once again, I think the crew (and the equipment) are doing great work. I just don't see any *recent* history that they have enough extra capacity to ever get five locomotives running.
I'm still planning on buying my family the normal two or three roundtrips this and every year -- but that's a good bit short of the 60,000 to 80,000 fares that are needed to generate enough revenue for a viable maintenance operation.
Respectfully,
Tom
