Russ,
If you were there in 1967 did you run into a guy named Farrenger, from California. There was also this guy named Ken ??? from Minnesota there the same time my folks and brother were there shooting NG ops. Anyway this guy we called "Minnesota" was a royal pain and would run out in front of everyone to get his "perfect" shot, but he did it at the last second. This happened to us in 1970 on a Southern RR trip in S.C. more than once.
Anyway, the story was that he got into it with some other fans out there in 1967, and said he was being threatened or some such, and called the police on these other guys. So they were all taken before the judge in Chama or something like that, which turned out was a lady Mayor. Anyway after hearing all sides instead of prosecuting the other railfans, she in fact fined Mr. Minnesota(rightly so).
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone out there!!!
I believe the altercations were at Los Pinos tank as they were shooting a westbound which everyone had been waiting hours for since they last saw it in Antonito.
Now as I recall the train was into Chama after dark, and the Mayor was none to happy to be awakened for this scenario. Probably why the mayor ruled against "Minnesota"
