By the 1950s the EBT started Narrow Gage operations at 5:00 AM-which in Winter is still very dark in mountains of Central PA.

Check this article out that describes operations in detail in 1954:

It does not mention standard gage operations at Mount Union. I do not know if the wash plant ran 24/7 or not. Perhaps other do?
