All this reminds me of attending a seminar at a Tourist RR Assoc. convention years ago. The seminar was on boiler abuse and it's prevention and was put on by one the known big guns in the steam biz. He pontificated about not running an injector for more than 30 seconds at a time, not firing the engine too hard, because......
"no one in this room works an engine at full capacity".
I put my hand up and said that every day I run the injector for 1:40 straight from Antonito to Sublette (trimmed way back) and run it wide open for 1:15 from Chama to Cumbres where we run the exact same maximum tonnage as the D&RGW did in the 1940's.
He gave me a death stare. I messed up his sermon. He doesn't like me to this day.
