300 gal is more widely used. Add a pump, hose reel, etc. and you are at your max. Towing a trailer is a bad idea for a fire truck, especially in the mountains. I think speeders are the only feasible way to go, with two following each train during the high risk days. If it is more than they can handle, you are going to have call in the big boys and their helicopters. One other thing that could be done would be to rig flat cars with portable ramps, which could be stored at each end, and if it gets bad enough load the truck on the flat. It also wouldn't hurt to have a tank car coupled to the flat.
