For years you could easily read "318" under the paint on the rear of the tender behind 340 at Knotts! This flare sided tender tank also has some very non-D&RGW tender trucks. IIRC, there was a water tank that went out of service up above Ridgway on the Ouray branch (Cow Creek?). The larger cistern of the 340's tender was needed to bridge the gap between tanks on the line so in the last years of the branch, whatever engine was used on the branch got the big tender behind her. When 340 was sold to Knotts, 318 was using her tender so 318's little tender went to California.
