That argument never came from the CRRM. When the decision was made to rebuild 318 or 346, 346 was considered the better candidate for restoration. The Museum did not have the funds to restore both locomotives. That still holds true. RGS 20 is currently undergoing a rebuild and the Museum still has to raise the amount needed to complete the restoration. That goal is in sight. That still relegates 318's operational restoration to the back burner. For now it will be a cosmetic restoration. Maybe down the road it could be rebuilt to operate. All it takes is $. They ain't making any more of them.
