Recently we had a post about Brooks Moguls circa 1880. I would like to know if anybody knows of any historical resources of information for Quincy & Torch Lake RR Brooks mogul #3, built in 1892, and Brooks mogul #4, built in 1900. Both builder’s photos are available, but are their any drawings showing dimensions available?
No. 4 is listed on the builder’s photo as a class B3 locomotive with 17” X 22” cylinders and 44” drivers.
No. 3 and 4 both have inside frames, canted valve chests, and no boiler braces connecting the smokebox with the pilot beam. The two engines were nearly identical, but it appears that the boiler of #4 sat higher than the boiler of #3.
Does anybody know of other Brooks 2-6-0s of this same design that operated on other roads? I have never seen anything like them.
Both locomotives are shown on this page about half way down: [
