Some of the recommendations in regards to the K-37 usage due to poor track condition would seem obsolete at this point. It has been noted and seen that the track condition has improved greatly since 2004. I have to say that the K-37's ran up until the end under the Grande with no major concerns on track or inability to use them due to their design. If they were so bad then when traffic declined I believe the Grande would have sidelined them all and kept the 36's running exclusively. Why would they have selected the 497 as the last major overhaul in 1967 if it wasn't going to run or tear up all the track? I can uderstand that the track conditions on the C&TS during the 90's through 2006 were bad and it was not just the 497 which was derailing. I think they should also be looking at the 492, 497,495 and 494 because there will be a time where a couple of the 36's could be down for long periods due to wear and tear and they will need something comparable to fill the void. I'd suspect there would be a lot less issues with the track problems now since the track has had some serious upgrades and attention. Just my 2 cents.
