Interesting reading and should take out much of guesswork, wishful thinking some fans have for their favorite engines.

While I am not anywhere qualified to find mechanical errors in the above, I did catch one error on engine 488. It states the engine was last used in 1996, but it was used in 1997. We had it on our special work train to remove the boulder that was on the rails stopping the rotary a couple of days earlier. I rode that train. I am pretty sure it operated as one of the engines on the rotary run along with 487 and 484 as well.
