I wonder if the C&TS could still do charters like what John and his colleagues ran in 1992? I suspect the biggest issue would be the number of freight cars available, and their ability to withstand the rigors of mid-train helpers and such. A lot of the boxcars seem to primarily be used by the Friends for storage these days, making them unavailable for charters. Of course, the Friends are also the ones who have repaired them, so I can't complain too loudly. The skill and experience of crews might also be an issue. It would be an interesting challenge. But basically it depends on whether the management company wants to do stuff like this; if they do it might happen, if they don't forget it. But it would be an interesting exercise in historic recreation, both in terms of the machinery doing what it was designed to do, and preserving the people skills that can make it happen.
