The original cab on Eureka was, as noted, burned in the fire at Old Vegas. The depth of the burn is about 1/4 inch. However under the charring the wood is still beautiful American walnut. While the new American walnut cab is currently on Eureka, the original sits next to the locomotive disassembled in my shop. The design and construction of the new and old cab is identical, and all the hardware parts from the old one are on the new.
The original brass cylinder wrappers are also stored in my shop. These could not be used again because some moron lifted the locomotive by crane and slung the cables under the cylinders, thus damaging these brass parts by severely stretching the metal. I could not bring them back to any presentable condition. So, I made new ones. However, the brass valve chest wrappers are original, as are most of the other brass parts such as the steam dome and the boiler bands.
In fact any parts removed or replaced on Eureka have been saved as part of the history of the locomotive....including the fake stack and pilot from Warner Brothers studios. The onlyl thing I do not have at my home that came with Eureka is the oil tank that was in the tender when I got it. That tank lives comfortabley with other oil tanks from other locomotives at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City.
