Dave Peterson, Brian Norden, George Sapp,
You guys made an amazing find, and I'm glad it was you and not some idjets who wouldn't have treated the site as hallowed ground.
Too often I've heard stories of people finding things and "saving" them by putting them on their own bookshelves or wall like big game trophy. I even know of a guy who "rescued" a pair of West Side lumber Co. trucks from an historical site a few years back, who then paniced when the Forest Service came looking for them, so he buried them in his back yard.
I've mentioned before that eventually all abandoned ROWs will be scoured and scavanged of any reminats. A time will come when railfans walking the old road beds will never feel the thrill of seeing a spike, or tie plate, or such on the ground.
Thank you for honestly saving these artifacts.
Very nice display as well. Next time I'm in Carson City I'll have to stop by and pay my respects.
