I noticed they (the EBT) are leasing part of the property to a standard gauge shortline.
Have either the C&TS or the EBT considered operating freight service if the opportunity presented itself and it could make money? If you look at the roadrailer equipment that Amtrak uses now, you can see that they could relatively easily adapt the equipment so it could be pulled via standard gauge or narrow gauge trucks. This would eliminate one of the big problems with hauling narrow gauge freight- interchange. Another thing is that it wouldn't populate the EBT and C&TS yards (they would be stored at the truck terminal once they arrived) with modern equipment...which could ruin the historical integrity of the railroads to some people.
Not to suggest we should take our 100 year old Baldwins out and hook them up to intermodal freight jobs, but there are plenty of narrow gauge locomotives in the US that would lend themselves nicely to this service.
In the meantime while we are debating this all... like the other folks have said, send donations, buy tickets, etc...
