Hi, Roger -
Thank you for posting this and for all your efforts on behalf of #483 over the past several years.
Of course I am disappointed that she will not be pulling the 40th Anniversary Special on Labor Day 2010, but am pleased that she will at least be given a place of honor and the respect she deserves, and will hopefully not deteriorate any further.
Perhaps someday - but not likely in my lifetime - she WILL run again!
Per our conversation earlier today, if you and/or The Friends would like to use any of my #483 photos from the last runs in 1968 that are on our Screen Saver, or any from the early 1970s that will be on Volume II* if it ever gets finished, please let me know so that I can make hi-res files available or large prints - up to 12"x16" - for the interpretive display.
See you in October, if not before.
- Russ
* Maybe we should re-dedicate Volume II of the Screen Saver - and your penny machines - to a new fund for the rebuild of #497. Of course IMHO, this should be on the condition that Soni give her a GREEN jacket like the one she wore when delivered to Alamosa from Burnham Shops in 1930, along with the 1930-style "Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad" lettering on her tender and a tri-colored logo.
