Re: 483 fund is committed

Just a question out of curiosity, what happens to worn out parts? like cracked wheels, cracked rods? Because could these broken parts be put back on static locomotives to make them looks complete? I wondered that for a long time, but never asked. With locomotives like 483. 492, 494 and 495 in pieces and with parts missing, could broken parts be put back in the place of the missing good parts?

This seems like a great thing to do in cases like UP 844 and UP 838, 838 being used as parts to keep 844 running, but why not put the broken and worn out parts in storage to 838 to be cosmetically restored when its out of good parts

Just a thought. That and a coat of paint would look good on engines like 492, 494 and 495, and other equipment around Colorado and New Mexico
