Greg, there is simply no reason to cast subjects such as the selection of yard lighting in "either-or" terms -- either
modernization or
preservation. More appropriate light fixtures are available that would provide better task illumination for working on locos at night (think about lighting that gives a better angled view of running gear detail than something 25 feet overhead), but that are also in keeping with the historical nature of the Chama yard. All it takes is a little will to think outside the box. Many of the un-historical irritations mentioned by others (such as the placement of web-cams) can be solved with a little creative thinking. Real question is: whose responsibility is it to develop and implement solutions?
