Thanks Scott, about half way through writing it, I thought it was sounding familar to me too. Dick had called me right after he made his posts because he just KNEW I would respond.
We both are on the same page, but maybe I am just a little more practical about how I view it. It would be great if while they are looking for new lights for the poles, they should shop for the same period lights for the outside of the engine house that point DOWN.
There are so many things around the yard that would fall in the same class as those lights. The depot has extra signs, Jay's web cam, the broadband antenna on the roof, all do not belong on the building. I know some of the signs are necessary, and most people like the web cam view, but I wish we could find a place for all that stuff off of the building.
Hopefully when the Friends start to find their way on more of the historical part, there can be a long, hard look at all of the items, and a discussion toward adopting a policy of standards of what is historical and was is not. There needs to be a REAL GOOD reason for adding anything, and not left up to whoever is in charge today.
