I guess my story is a little different from most. My mom said I was chasing trains while still in the womb. Dad worked on the railroad during the war(WW11), and he always loved steam.
Living near Cincinnati we saw tons of steam in the early 50's and would even travel around, including to Narrow Gauge Country. My dad first visited the NG in 1954, then took the family in 1956, as we rode one of those 3 day Alamosa to Durango to Silverton Roundtrips. Have been going back periodically and am thankful my dad took the time to attempt to see the D&RGW freight operations in the sixties before it was gone.
My love of railroading, and steam in particular led to my getting into the video business. This really began with a trip to South Africa in 1984 where I shot a ton of steamy video. That is narrow gauge too, by our standards 3' 6".
So I guess I always was bitten from day one,
but Narrow gauge country started at age 5. Photo is from my web site welcome page.
Happy 4th of July!
