When you save an image in Photoshop you should use "Save for web" rather than "Save As" that way you can adjust compression and other settings on the fly and get a preview of what the final output will look like. This will help with adjusting the compression for making a quality photo for the web. It is always surprising to me how no one uses that function, it is very handy and after using a few times you will not want to use just "Save As" anymore.
I am all for larger images, I very commonly use photos pulled from the net for modeling purposes and I am typically running in a high resolution so "tiny" pictures are useless in my case and too much compression in a jpeg ruins the image.
That brings up another question, how many people here are still using dial-up? As an IT professional, I have to ask the obvious question.. WHY?
