During the WWI era the San Juan would run to Silverton in the late afternoon, meeting the returning Silverton Mixed at Hermosa. This train took about 2 1/2 hours to Silverton on a first=class schedule.
Alva Lyons said that a 470 could haul 12 cars before the rebuilding program got underway. This increased weight reduced the train to 10 cars.
The tonnage rating of a K28 in that territory was 320 tons.
