GEORGETOWN - The Georgetown Loop Railroad rolled out three new passenger cars on Friday.
The Colorado Historical Society purchased the cars to give visitors a much different experience while riding the rail.
Eric Dowty works for the railroad.
"This is a fantastic, dramatic improvement to the railroad," he said.
For the last three decades visitors have ridden in open air cars, which fill up fast and only run when the weather is nice. The new cars have large windows, folding seats and a kerosene heater.
The railroad hopes to eventually offer rides year-round.
"The summer time is beautiful, the fall is beautiful, but when you get on a train when there is snow on the ground the sounds of the train are different," said Dowty.
The new cars will start operating next year. Right now the railroad is waiting on two more engines to pull the heavier cars.
