Darren,
Fewer runs is worse - it gives you less opportunity to spread your fixed costs! Do some quick calcs and even if you optimistically believe that that a train load of folks will spend 6 hours caught in traffic for a one hour train ride in the winter, with price point fares and locos that will pull three full coaches, CHS will lose $5K per run day, not including covering the fixed costs. Not saying it cannot be done! or that it should not be done...just that it is not a profitable idea...but that has not stopped CHS to this point, now has it?
The masses come to the Rockies to ski in the winter. They creep up I-70 for hours, get to the slopes, ski/snowboard all weekend like maniacs, race to their cars and get back on I-70 hoping to beat the traffic back down the mountain before getting caught in another quagmire - there is not time nor inclination to slip off the highway for scenic attractions - enough of that on the slopes. If they stop at all it is to eat at Beau Jo's, get gas or rent some ski equipment.
