I have a 5-year old across the street from me. His parents say he loves trains. He has a fairly complete set of Thomas trains. This past spring I took a 4x8 HO layout to Lula's Railroad Days in NE GA. I put the layout in the carport until I could get it back inside.
Grant came over with his Mom and I showed him HO running. He knew about passenger and freight cars. He was able to ID the different freight cars. I showed him the different types of passenger cars (old Athearn models) and he did not forget the difference between the dinner and the coach.
I showed him a mixed-train.
A week or two later he told his mommy that Thomas had a mixed train with both freight and passenger cars.
I think Thomas is a great way to get the young interested in railroading and I think if the C&TS had a Thomas weekend in either Chama or Antonitio just before or just after the regular season, it would be a good thing and would not take away from the regular tourist season. If held in Antonito, maybe a Big Horn turn could be offered also.
FWIW.
