I am out in So. Calif. at OERM and we have hosted many Thomas events and I am sure that you will get to see all of the museum that they can staff during Thomas as part of the admission price. At our museum, we are stretched pretty thin with over 8000 people a day on some days, so not every exhibit is open on "Thomas days".
As for "forbidden topic", I would beg to differ. We are very proud to show off our museum to our many guests that would have never known about us without Thomas. We pickup about 300 new members, and the income isn't bad as well. We have improved our physical plant with paving our streets, building huge loading platforms, improvements in our parking to where we have a first class museum today. The money allows us to tackle restoration projects and build new car barns that we could never have afforded without Thomas.
