It seems to me UK is more remote than Eastern Oregon.
We are discussing the possibility of EFD and FFD combined. No decision yet on this.
Scooping is a lot easier on 19 since she is an oil burner. Not much physical challenge, but a challenge nontheless requiring constant tweaking of the firing valves.
The challenge is to keep up with the Engineer with steam pressure, water in the boiler, and no smoke. It is easy to waste fuel in the form of smoke, but a real task to keep a clean stack all the way to Sumpter. BUT, it can be done. Also, the Fireman gets to ring the bell at all crossings and throughout the yards. The Fireman also has to keep his eyes on the road since the Engineer cannot see aroung left hand curves. It really is a challenge and I really enjoy it. To arrive at Sumpter Depot after 5 miles of firing, with full pressure and a full glass of water, and a clean stack all the way makes one feel they have really accomplished something.
