Re: Red vs silver cleristories

Andrew, when was the last time you saw a roof of a coach painted RED!!!??? I don't think I have ever seen this. I guess most coaches I can remember anywhere, were always silver, or Black for the most part, plus Stainless Steel on those types of coaches. Seems that Black was the universal color most places. I don't think blue coaches were sporting blue roofs were they!!!
As for the time period, I was only picking the 50's and 60's as an example to back up my claim that the GRANDE GOLD WAS AUTHENTIC. Heck if you really wanted period authentic for the most years of service you would stick with the green, but they obviously disagree, and want more flash, thus the red. My arguement on this was, okay if you MUST PAINT away the GREEN, then consider another color that is somewhat historical, and the most remembered in that instance would be the Grande Gold which was used in standard gauge as well as later years on the NG Silverton branch. Also I think it stands out more than the red, but yes I agree the red stands out more than green!!!
Hey, if the Friends can get a set of authentic looking San Juan equipment together for specials, then they can keep me happy, and paint the tourista train colors whatever they want...pink, purple, Thomas Blue, whatever!!! The point is if the train is supposed to be a reminder of something historic then at least attempt to make it look historic, not whatever some guy decides might look snazzy!!! At least a matched trainset looks better than the mixture they had last year!!Greg
