Jason,
While your decision to send your money to the NN is entirely your perogative, I would like you to consider that the Friends of the C&TS is a whole lot more than red/green tourist coaches (even though the Friends had nothing to do with the color choice). They are about the never ending job of restoring and preserving the 100+ historic freight, MOW and passenger equipment items. They are about saving the last original wooden coaling tipple in NA, they are also about saving the historic buildings along the line, etc., etc. As John Cole mentioned, sometime in the future, the Friends of the C&TS may be able to offer an historic, Varnished Pullman Green San Juan passenger train (with historic cars) for limited specials. So keep that in mind.
As John Cole and Dick Cowles have explained the Freinds have no part whatsoever in the choice of the color that the tourist coaches have been painted. That is a decision that was made by the INDEPENDENT operating management. BTW, after seeing a nearly all RED train on opening day, I must say it does look striking against the greenery along the line. Sure stands out rounding Windy Point in the afternoon sun. I like historic as much as the next railfan, but these cars will stick in the average tourists mind.
On the other hand, the Nevada Northern is a well-deserving operation to support, so if that is where your interest truly lies than your money is well spent. But we do miss your support.
