It would seem that Ulrich was just doing what he was told...however, shouldn't he take some responsibility when CHS came to him with the project and he should have know, or apprised himself with, what the operational demands at the loop are and what the end use of the locomotive was going to be or desired? Should he not have told the CHS that in no way would 250K put thier locomotive in any kind of shape to hold up to any maintained operation at the loop? Yes, its clear no one wants to beat up on Ulrich, but honestly...should he not have put his foot down with CHS and done more (seemingly) than just take the money and hope for the best? Now, it would be very interesting to know if he did warn CHS and they turned a deaf ear....as they seem to do a lot. Since Ulrich has not stepped forward to claim otherwise, it would seem that both he and CHS had a lot to do with the level of restoration and expected performance level. It does seem logical to expect that Ulrich would have some idea as to the rigors of use put forth on engines running at the loop. It is clear by posts here that no one has a problem with the quality of his work. However, since he should have known that CHS has no idea as to anything related to the restoration of steam locomotives, he should have really done more than appearently just take the money and hope for the best. Is it possible that Mr. Ulrich will step forward and shed some light on this subject....wouldn't count on it.
