Both 473 and 478 (and probably 476, too) had yard pilots at some time during the 1950's and early 60's, even after they were pretty much assigned to Silverton train service.
Lest anyone think that I don't love ALL D&RG narrow gauge steam--I am really looking forward to seeing 315 run. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that the locomotive that I saw in 1967 as a battered hulk in front of the "A-frame" (anybody remember those?) Durango Chamber of Commerce office would be preparing to run in 2007. Wow! And kudos to the volunteers that are making that a reality--they deserve some huge kudos!
