Like you Wade I never expected to see any of these real old timers run again. Heck I haven't seen 463 yet in person!!! I remember seeing 464 rusting away in Durango, and 315 on display along the highway toward Hermosa(north of downtown).
I must say I am not a big fan of early steam power, although I think the 315 would look pretty cool in freight service on Cumbres. Wonder how many cars she could pull unassisted from Chama? I know a K36 is good for about 10-12 depending on the cars.
Since all these old engines were gone way before my first visit(1956), I guess I have always been a fan of the K36 and K37's the most. I have never been a huge fan of appliances on the smokebox like the K28's. Reminds me of the Chesapeake and Ohio engines and others that had them on the front. Not that I hate them by any means, but the K36 and K37's were the meat and potatos engines that hauled the freight that kept things going so late in the game. Probably the 3 K28's in Durango are more famous however.
I guess in the next year or so I will have to end my 10 year drought from Chama and Durango, with a trip to see some of this new stuff like 315 and or the Alamosa-La Veta critter!!!
